Such communal surfaces are high-risk zones for the contagion, with prominent manufacturers currently combating major outbreaks that are impacting thousands of workers. The COVID-19 crisis presents an unprecedented challenge for our times in keeping businesses operational while maintaining a contagion-safe workplace at the same time while respecting the data privacy of the employees. This week, it is our privilege to introduce a comprehensive set of COVID-19 readiness solutions that leverage our privacy-forward contactless biometric technology that can help them get back to work with one less thing to worry about.
What is included in Oloid’s COVID-19 Readiness Suite of Solutions? And how does it work?
Oloid offers a highly accurate biometric authentication technology for frictionless and secure operation of time clocks, doors and turnstiles without the need of touching any communal surfaces. Workers access the app on standard tablets; it integrates with leading existing time and attendance systems, as well as most physical access control systems (PACS). Oloid’s FaceVaultTM technology secures existing doors and turnstiles without the need for expensive hardware or rip and replacement of existing infrastructure. Oloid’s AI technology can detect the presence of PPE masks and automatically prompt the user with a voice or QR code if the recognition confidence drops below an acceptable threshold due to the face mask.
In addition, Oloid offers elevated body temperature (EBT) screening by leveraging thermal sensors which provide high accuracy temperature measurements using array sensor technology. Oloid’s AI processes the thermal image to determine the temperature of the tear ducts, considered the most reliable indicator. Companies can set up a temperature threshold. When workers approach Oloid’s contactless (facial recognition based) time clock or access control for opening doors or turnstiles, Oloid is able to perform an automated temperature check too. If the scanned temperature is found to exceed the threshold, the worker can be referred for additional assistance. This allows the company’s examiners to perform a more thorough investigation selectively with the high risk candidates. When combined, facial biometrics and a thermal camera are a powerful way to identify risk before an employee is in proximity with other workers.
Lastly, Oloid also offers a secure and private workflow for capturing the self certification of health by the workers by administering a simple questionnaire based on CDC guidelines. Such questionnaires are important in establishing the fact the employer has done their part in asking if the employee has traveled recently or been in proximity of a COVID-19 patient. Many employers are performing this interview verbally by asking these questions upon entry and recording them manually.
With Oloid’s self certification solution, the employee can fill out a questionnaire on their phone or their computer. They can do it at their home or at the workplace before entry. Oloid’s software generates a QR code which can be printed or saved on the phone. Once the employee is on-site, they can present the QR code to the Oloid tablet/device. Oloid verifies the response and stores the data in the company’s servers. None of this data is retained by Oloid.
How does Oloid ensure privacy and security of end-user data?
The Oloid team has always held data security, ethical and privacy considerations at the forefront of its product design. We have developed a privacy and security infrastructure to ensure the protection of end-user identity and personally identifiable information. Facial images are converted and stored as an encrypted numerical code and the source images are discarded, which eliminates the possibility of being used outside the workplace or the employer handing over the biometrics to external agencies. End-users can also manage consent and view logs of when and where their identity was used at the workplace, thereby providing full control and transparency. Lastly, none of the data entered by an end-user in a self-certification questionnaire is never stored by Oloid. It is either retained by the end-user on their computer or phone or by the employer.
Where do we go from here? What is Oloid’s vision and roadmap?
Oloid is on a mission to remove friction from the everyday work experience of deskless workers and to create more secure and safe workplaces. A factory or construction worker or a nurse may have to swipe their badge or use their fingerprint scores of times to go about their work day. Not only are these systems old and unfriendly to use, they are also insecure and siloed. This is unlike the experience of knowledge workers who have seamless and secure access to workplace applications using advanced technologies such as single-sign-on. Oloid's vision is to replace old antiquated technology, such as badges and fingerprint, with a highly robust, secure and frictionless facial identity by leveraging off-the-shelf tablets and devices.
